The Lies You Tell Yourself…

Better Be Good.

We have all heard the saying:

You are what you eat.

But…

How often have you heard:

You are the lies you tell yourself.

That saying is probably more true than you are what you eat. Yet, we never hear it. Unless we are in the middle of a personal development program or listening to a podcaster interviewing a psychologist or high-performance coach.

The Science

There is scientific evidence to explain why you are what you think.

A part of our brain is called the RAS — Reticular Activating System. It has two functions. The first is to filter out all the unimportant information we see, hear, and feel. The second function of the RAS is to highlight what is important for us to know and remember.

That is why you notice every black Kia after learning someone drives one but never noticed one before. That is why some people can hear a particular noise when you can’t. They’ve trained their brains to listen for that noise. It’s the same for those who study body language. They have trained themselves to pick up on the in-ate tendencies of lying and withholding.
